Gravity Stone

The GRAVITY STONE construction system is designed to build gravity retaining walls. The system consists of several concrete blocks that can be assembled in many retaining wall options. The joints are dry; the blocks in one row are connected to a shaped lock and individual rows are connected with plastic pins. The internal wall cavity is backfilled with a suitable material.

The system components are produced in manufacturing plants purchased in the USA using vibro-pressed concrete technology with a low water-to-cement ratio. High concrete strength is achieved by means of this technology. Construction of retaining walls using the GRAVITY STONE system is quick and easy.

Shapes of the system elements and their structural layout:

The GRAVITY STONE system is primarily used for retaining walls in the following areas:

  • roads,
  • railways,
  • road and railway bridges,
  • landscaping as part of building construction,
  • watercourses and water body modification and regulation.
  • Garden architecture

Advantages of the GRAVITY STONE system:

  • Aesthetic appearance
Retaining walls made with the GRAVITY STONE system are very sophisticated. When designing a wall you can choose from various building block colours and various surface finishes of face elements. Smooth and split face elements are available. Six basic colour finishes are available. Building walls from building blocks permits various wall shapes in both the floor plan (rounded walls, cranked walls, etc.) and elevation arrangements. The main aesthetic effect of these walls consists in segmentation of large monotonous spaces into smaller, better perceived parts.
  • Versatility
The GRAVITY STONE retaining wall construction system accommodates any floor plan shape. The walls can be straight, undulating, convex, concave or cranked at inner or outer angles. This versatility permits construction of variable walls based on the ground morphology, varying elevation layouts, etc. Gravity walls permit construction of auxiliary structures such as steps and ramps, as well as graded wall heights to reflect variable ground slopes. The system permits easy response to current execution conditions: you can easily run around large boulders, save trees, etc. Walls built with GRAVITY STONE can be designed as modular (composed of building blocks only) or reinforced (earth behind the wall reinforced with geogrid). Modular walls are suitable for heights up to 6 m and for a more solid, e.g., rocky base. Reinforced walls are advisable for lower-quality earth or for dynamic straining.
  • Execution
The no-mortar dry joints of the GRAVITY STONE system are more convenient in many ways than rigid mortar joints of conventional retaining walls. Structures executed by means of dry assembly enable relative movement between individual building blocks due to uneven settlement, different loading and other influences. Dry joints fundamentally inhibit unsightly cracks in laying and side joints, which can happen in traditional, mainly plastered walls. The dry laying joints between the building blocks push water freely outside the wall, thus reducing the hydrostatic pressure behind the wall.
  • Assembly
The assembly of retaining walls made with GRAVITY STONE building blocks is undemanding. It requires only a couple of simple, repetitive elemental operations that do not require either qualified or professionally trained workers. The assembly only requires limited equipment. On the other hand, the assembly instructions as they are prescribed ensure the highest possible achievable quality. Optimum productivity can be achieved after relatively short practice, generally after a few construction projects. If necessary, you can request professional training for wall assembly from KB-BLOK.
  • Durability
GRAVITY STONE system building blocks are made from high-performance concrete with a low water coefficient. If a GRAVITY STONE system retaining wall is placed in a typical environment, its quality does not deteriorate for the time of its expected lifetime, i.e., approximately 100 years. The lifetime of the other wall components, such as the gravel backfill, polymer geogrid or plastic pins, is also very long.
  • Price
The investment costs required for acquisition of a GRAVITY STONE retaining wall are comparable with other walled systems and much lower than the costs for acquisition of a concrete wall. With respect to the concrete durability of KB-BLOK system products and a long-term nice look of the wall, the maintenance costs are minimal.
