Preparatory work

Earthworks are done depending on the earth type. The foundation strip is normally made 40 cm wide and 40 cm deep in standard cases. The foundation strip has to be laid on a gravel bed with a thickness of at least 200 mm. In frost and slush-prone earth, the footing base of the gravel bed has to be at the freezing depth. Posts and the wall have to be measured out before grouting the foundations. During the concrete pouring, rebars are embedded in the foundations; the depth is 40 times the rebar diameter, and the spacing is as per the posts. In fence walls, rebars have to be embedded continuously along the full foundation length. Foundations are made depending on the earth type. The foundations can be filled 5-20 cm above ground, or only 10 cm below ground, using one row of smooth building blocks.

With low earth bearing capacity, the footing base or the gravel bed has to be widened.

We recommend waterproofing the joint between the foundations and the wall, with either a double primer coat or a bitumen strip.
